Helping customers evaluate risk and drive improved operational efficiency: Product Managers working in Risk

“To be successful in product you need to be dynamic, reliable and have a ready-to-learn mindset. These characteristics allow me to have structure, balance and good time management while taking on several projects at once.”

“The people I work with in Product Management are easy to collaborate with and great to be around. It’s exciting when there is a new project to work on or a new team to work with, because I am constantly learning new things from the people around me.”

“What first attracted me to RELX was the genuineness and care shown from the beginning of the interview process. During my time as an intern, I had the pleasure of meeting many amazing people who embodied the culture of the company so well. Today, I encounter people daily who care about me as a person and how I develop in my career. I have had an excellent experience at LexisNexis that has exceeded my expectations.”

Noah is a senior associate product manager in our Insurance business, based in Alpharetta, Georgia, and has worked at RELX for three years.

“I have degrees in English and Spanish Literature, and I was the copy chief for this business before I transitioned to my current role. That background has been invaluable. Powerful storytelling is paramount for any successful product manager. I must inspire confidence in my research, and ultimately, my recommended approach. I must repeatedly communicate my product vision and strategy in different ways to multiple stakeholders. I lean on my storytelling and communication skills all the time. Those skills have been the foundation for my most successful projects.”

“I find it deeply motivating to collaborate with people in different departments within the business. From front-end developers to sales account managers, a product manager gets to work with everyone. I learn from their experience and their ways of working. The bonus for me is that we have many offices around the globe. I have colleagues in Singapore, Romania, India and Brazil, to name a few. There’s so much cultural richness from which to learn and there are so many diverse perspectives being given a platform. It’s incredibly rewarding to work in that kind of environment every day.”

Monica is a senior product manager for ICIS, based in Houston, Texas and has worked at RELX for 15 years.

Advancing science and improving patient outcomes: Product Managers working in STM

“I am the product owner of Scopus, a tool that helps researchers make high-value decisions with confidence. Outside of work, I’m an amateur birdwatcher (hence the picture of me with my binoculars), and I like to think that the same instincts help me spot strong opportunities for product growth. One recent example is Scopus AI, a reliable generative AI tool specifically designed to support researchers.”

“I have a deep belief in the power of science to shape a better future. Today, millions of researchers, government officials, and librarians worldwide use Scopus. By supporting them, we’re contributing to make human progress, which I find truly exciting and meaningful.”

“I have been with Elsevier for over 18 years, starting as a salesperson, before moving to the product team. My extensive experience in both sales and product management has equipped me with insights into key global trends and the ability to anticipate our customers' future needs.”

“My natural inclination to thrive in a global, culturally diverse and highly collaborative environment makes me a strong fit for our team. I take great pride in working alongside motivated, professional and warm-hearted colleagues. Together, we tackle various challenges daily while also growing as a team. When I enjoy my work, I perform at my best.”

Yoshiko is vice president of product management for Scopus, based in Tokyo, Japan and has worked at RELX for 18 years.

“My team and I share an ambition to help more authors with accurate and valuable research get published. I started as an intern at LexisNexis in Dayton, in the US. In 2002, I joined Elsevier in a user-experience design and research role. While at Elsevier, I’ve been solving users’ problems in different areas of our business. In 2015, I made the move into product management.”

“For me, good product management is all about understanding problems, sometimes highly complex problems. Deeply understanding our users’ issues allows us to come up with creative solutions and I love making stuff that improves the lives of others. I enjoy coaching others in product roles, and I’m inspired by the collaborative cycle of creating, learning and iterating toward a solution to help our users gain, create or share knowledge.”

“When you start out in product management you must fall in love with your users’ problems, not the solution. Understanding this is a key product principle and one should practice it every day. My advice is to not be afraid to take a few risks and always have fun. I value working with our impressive colleagues. We get to work on meaningful problems and contribute to important outcomes. I can go to sleep at night feeling like what I do makes a difference to the world."

Heather is a director of product management, based in Amsterdam, Netherlands and has worked at RELX for 24 years.

“After more than three years with ScienceDirect, I realise my responsibilities have become rather diverse. They range from resolving author issues and supporting the books business, to driving innovations using AI and enabling Product Managers to be more effective. The potential breadth of a product role is quite remarkable; it certainly ensures there's never a dull moment.”

“The opportunity for continuous learning is something I find genuinely exciting about product management. Particularly in the last two years, AI has become central to technological advancement. Numerous new opportunities and challenges have emerged simultaneously, which push one to constantly learn and absorb new knowledge. AI is changing how researchers conduct their work and interact with our content, requiring us to anticipate their future needs and provide enhanced tools. When overwhelmed, I always go back to the foundation of our strengths: our user insights, our unique assets - particularly trusted content and deep connections with research communities - and our collective willingness to innovate with new technology.”

“What truly resonates with me about product development is the fundamental requirement to put ourselves in our customers' shoes; this was my primary motivation for moving into product. Our goal is to build products and features that solve problems for users - including researchers, clinicians, and engineers - enabling them to advance science or improve healthcare more effectively. I frequently find myself beginning a sentence in a discussion with 'If I were a user...'. There is a liberating clarity that comes from setting aside personal bias or the 'expert' perspective to focus purely on user needs.”

“The combination of continuous learning, impactful problem-solving and user focus makes product management a deeply rewarding career path to consider.”

Lingni is senior director of product management, based in Oxford, UK and has worked at RELX for 18 years.

Building tools to help customers learn about markets, source products and complete transactions: Product Managers working in Exhibitions

The most exciting thing about working in product right now is the chance to dive into cutting-edge technologies. GenAI, for example is exploding. Being at the heart of this is particularly exciting, where the possibilities are endless. It’s thrilling to be part of building products that genuinely change lives and businesses. I am also fortunate to work at RX, the exhibitions part of RELX - every day we have fresh insights across multiple industries. It’s fast-paced, constantly evolving and demands that you stay sharp and in tune with trends. There’s never a dull moment - and that’s exactly why I love it.”

“The secret to success is relentless customer focus. You must be obsessed with customer impact. Curiosity is key, as are strong relationships and confident decision-making - especially when you’re surrounded by a sea of tools promising the next big thing. Just this week I saw a report listing dozens of AI products aimed solely at customer acquisition. You can’t use them all. The real skill lies in knowing what’s going to work for your customers, and what won’t.”

“My mantra is ‘stay curious, stay connected and make a difference.’ I am also super passionate about leadership and influence. The team at RX affectionately call me ‘The Coach’ as I have coached at the highest level in women’s football. Sport teaches you so much - teamwork, leadership, resilience. I’ve been lucky to bring those qualities into my work in product. There’s a reason over 85% of women in the C-suite have competed in sport - it shapes you, I enjoy sharing my learnings from the sporting world with colleagues.”

Kelly is a digital product director for RX, based in Richmond, UK, and has worked at RELX for two and a half years.
