During RELX Cares Month, colleagues unite across the business through volunteering and fundraising. In 2023, 36 percent of RELX employees were engaged in volunteering through RELX Cares across the world and 90 percent of those polled after volunteering said that their motivation and pride in the company had increased as a result.
Be inspired by reading these stories of how colleagues from across RELX have volunteered their time in their local communities.
National Center for Missing and Exploited Children
In January 2024, our LexisNexis Risk Solutions colleagues in the US held a Sales Conference where teams packed Hope Bags for The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Hope Bags include essentials such as toiletries, clothes, footwear, and food. The bags are given to young people rescued from harmful situations.
One Sandwich at a Time
In March 2024, a new record was set by the cross-business RELX Cares team at the New York office making 500 peanut butter & jelly sandwiches for the homeless in less than one hour!
Cogges Manor Farm
In May 2024, Elsevier’s Human Resources team based in the UK went to Cogges Manor Farm in Witney for a RELX Cares Day. Colleagues painted seven chicken coops inside and out multiple times and spruced up all the black gates and doors around the farm ready for the summer visitors.
Siblings in Stride
In May 2024, the RELX Legal team met in Massachusetts for an in-person meeting that included a special Cares event. They collaborated to assemble 75 activity kits for Siblings in Stride, a nonprofit founded by two local teenagers. The organisation supports siblings of children requiring intensive medical care by providing activity kits and resources to families facing similar challenges.
Voice of Refugees
In September 2023, the LexisNexis Legal & Professional Cares team in Malaysia concluded its impactful series with the workshop 'Cares Day: Voice of Refugees'. This final session, in collaboration with MSRI and Xiamen University, aimed to amplify the voices of refugee communities, sharing their experiences and insights gained throughout the workshop series.
The workshops, including poetry writing and legal empowerment sessions, were to support refugee communities worldwide. By extending these knowledge-sharing opportunities globally, LexisNexis aims to promote collaboration and cross-cultural understanding, ultimately striving to enhance the lives of refugees globally.
Book Aid International
In June 2024, Elsevier’s global communications team, stationed in the UK, had the privilege of visiting the Book Aid International warehouse in London which RELX has been a partner for over 30 years through regular book donations, financial support and staff fundraising and volunteering. RELX donations of medical books are critical to educating the next generation of healthcare providers around the world.
RELX plays a significant role in supporting this cause. In 2023, we donated 105,109 new higher education and medical books, as well as a grant to help Book Aid International and partners create an Explorer Library at Chiuzira Primary School, a poorly resourced school in a heavily populated area in central Malawi.
Supporting the visually impaired
RX Tradex in Vietnam won one of five $5,000 cash prizes in the 2022 RELX Cares Challenge, for its work supporting the Go Vap District Association of the Blind in Ho Chi Minh, a project which was initiated, and is now led by Senior HR and Admin Executive, Dang Phuong Thao. “The Association works with local authorities to support blind people with resources such as educational courses on using braille and mobile phones” explained Ms Thao. “It helps them to access all levels of education and provides life skill classes for blind children. It also provides employment for blind people in therapeutic massage facilities.”
RX Tradex’s support for the Association for the Blind extends as colleagues continued to raise money to provide accommodation for the rural poor living in central Vietnam, who lack shelter from the sun and rain, and access to even the basic necessities.
Revitalizing Nature
In August 2024, over 40 Risk team members in Dublin dedicated a Cares day to revitalize a garden at St. Martin de Porres Primary School in Tallaght, Dublin. The garden, unused since Covid, will now provide a serene outdoor learning space for children who lack regular access to nature. Upon returning from their summer break, students will discover a beautifully restored garden that includes an extended wildflower area and spaces for planting flowers and vegetables in the spring.

2024 Paralympic Games
Many of our RELX colleagues in France stepped up to volunteer their time and talent at the 2024 Paralympic Games. Over the course of 10 days, these dedicated employees played an important role in supporting Club France, the hub for celebrating the French Paralympic athletes. Their contributions included logistical support, communication operations, programming disability awareness activities, supervising sports activities and more.
