The Recognising Those Who Care (RTWC) Awards celebrate RELX employees who have made outstanding contributions to RELX Cares.
Judges considered applications from across the business. Congratulations to everyone who was nominated. Each of them displayed the passion and dedication our colleagues have to RELX Cares and their communities.
The following eight winners of the 'outstanding contribution by an individual' category were awarded a place on a trip to visit our partner Book Aid International in Ghana.
DEBY KOCONTENT lAWYER, LexisNexis lEGAL & Professional - cANADA
Deby has demonstrated extraordinary commitment to community service through her extensive involvement in RELX Cares, significantly impacting both local and international causes. Over the past five years, she has actively participated in around 60 volunteer initiatives, raising over $75,000 for various charities, including the Heart & Stroke Foundation, World Wildlife Fund, and the Umgeni Community Empowerment Centre. Deby’s leadership is evident in her roles as Co-Chair and RELX Cares Champion, where she has organised numerous events, such as charity fundraisers and educational programs. Her dedication extends beyond RELX, including her role as a Board of Directors member for BridgeWay Family Centre, where she helped raise $28,000. Through her efforts, Deby has fostered a culture of collaboration and inspired her colleagues to engage in meaningful volunteer work.
Kent wolfSenior software engineer II, Lexisnexis Risk Solutions : usa
For over fifteen years, Kent has supported Building Bridges, sponsored a child in poverty in Bolivia, and assisted immigrants and the homeless with essential needs. Kent’s commitment extends to organising river clean-ups, blood drives, and fundraising for Cancer Research. He manages multiple events, including crafting activities for children and maintenance work at Ronald McDonald House. His actions reflect a genuine, selfless desire to help others and make a positive impact, inspiring colleagues and benefiting countless individuals in need.
Paul TeggEMEA Service Delivery team lead, Lexisnexis risk Solutions: UK
Since late 2021, Paul Tegg has revolutionised our company's approach to recycling laptops, mobile phones, and peripherals by implementing a scheme that not only ensures environmental sustainability but also impacts the local community. By repurposing outdated equipment, Paul has bridged the digital divide for disadvantaged youth, isolated seniors, underprivileged families, and those with long-term illnesses. His initiative, which involved collaborating with local charities and businesses to refurbish and distribute the technology, has strengthened existing relationships and created new ones, benefiting numerous organisations such as Black Prince Trust and Croydon Refugee Centre. The program's success is highlighted by heartfelt testimonials and has even inspired employees to engage more actively in community volunteering.
Catherine gordonProduct manager, digital learning, Lexisnexis Legal & Professional: Australia
Catherine has been an invaluable member of LN Cares since 2012, She actively participates in every meeting, volunteers for numerous activities, and consistently contributes fresh, innovative ideas. Her efforts have significantly impacted various charities, including Lifeline and Foodbank, where she has managed volunteering relationships for years. Catherine's resilience, adaptability, initiative, and collaboration have driven positive change and improved company morale. Her contributions include organising fundraising events, coordinating volunteer activities, and supporting numerous causes, all while remaining humble and focused on the greater good. Her impact, although difficult to quantify, is deeply woven into the fabric of LN Cares, making her truly deserving of recognition.
Amrane Lamiri Operational communications manager, RX: France
For the past two years, Amrane has been an active RELX Cares champion, organising the successful "Connected Challenge Against Hunger" in 2022 and 2023, which fostered team spirit and raised €38,000 for Action contre la Faim. Participation grew from 98 employees in 2022 to a record 160 anticipated for 2024. Additionally, Amrane participated in the "Libraries Without Borders" initiative, where he and five colleagues helped sort over 3,300 books for the "Mon Sac de Livres" project, an experience set to be repeated due to its success.
In 2023, thanks to the RX France Cares team, significant funds were raised: €5,000 from a bike challenge, €18,610 from the Connected Challenge, and €2,000 from the "Recognising Those Who Care" award. Amrane has been instrumental in motivating employees to participate and enhancing team cohesion following the merger of Reed Midem and Reed Expo France in 2021.
gomathy TamilselvanLearning & Development Manager, Elsevier: India
Gomathy is a dedicated advocate for community engagement and professional development, actively contributing to our volunteering and RELX Cares initiatives in Chennai. Her commitment to collective action has led to numerous initiatives, including raising significant funds for special needs children during the pandemic and expanding outreach to the Arvind Foundation. She has spearheaded various volunteering activities, including sports events and fundraising potlucks, and mobilised a large team of volunteers. Her leadership and proactive approach have significantly impacted our community initiatives, making a meaningful difference in the lives of those she serves. Her dedication to inclusivity and compassion continues to inspire and motivate her colleagues.
Dang Phuong Thaosenior HR & Admin Executive, RX: vietnam
Since 2019, Phuong Thao has been part of RX Vietnam's small team of 22. Among the activities of RELX, RELX Cares particularly resonated with her. In 2022, she participated in the RELX Cares Challenge, winning a $5000 prize for the Go Vap District Blind Association, supporting 92 blind members. With the funds, Phuong Thao organised smartphone usage classes, provided Braille reading lessons, extended loans, offered cash assistance, sponsored Braille book printing, and hosted a year-end party. Her efforts resulted in 11 impactful programmes, significantly enhancing the lives of the blind members.
Ghada CaptanDirector, content management, Elsevier: usa
Since taking on the role of RELX Cares Champion in 2022, Ghada Captan has made a profound impact at the 230 Park Avenue office in New York City. Her exceptional leadership has driven numerous community service projects, from mentoring and fundraising to food pantry work, all of which have boosted participation, even amidst the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. Although Ghada has moved on from her Champion role, the initiatives she set in motion continue to flourish.
The winners had the amazing opportunity to travel to Ghana with our partner Book Aid International to see first-hand how our book donations are benefitting the Ghana Library Authority. The colleagues, who came from APAC, Europe and America, were able to see the books in use at the Accra Central Library and also helped process books at the RELX funded Takoradi Library Children’s corner.
