The people behind the value
From invisible code to live events, colleagues across RELX can see how their work becomes something customers feel: speed, confidence, reach and better decisions.
A customer may never see the performance test, editorial decision, data model, product prototype or team conversation behind a RELX solution. But they experience the outcome: a system responds at a critical moment, an AI answer becomes more meaningful, research travels further or an event creates the right connection. Across Risk, STM, Legal, Exhibitions, Corporate and teams in the Philippines, colleagues in very different roles describe a direct line between the work in front of them and the value delivered beyond them.
Making invisible work visible
In Risk in the UK, Enodi Audu helps teams turn ideas into customer-ready prototypes more quickly. The value of that acceleration is clear to her: “My work helps product managers, user experience designers, and solution consultants get prototypes in front of customers quickly - solving real customer problems faster, delivering clear value for them, and driving revenue growth for Cirium.”
Customers may be even less aware of the work undertaken by Jaikishore Balasubramanian, a Performance Test Engineer for Risk. But that does not make its impact any less tangible. “Customers may never see the performance testing behind the scenes, but they absolutely feel the difference - in quicker responses, smoother experiences, and greater confidence in the systems they rely on every day.”
Rika Furukawa, Point of Care Editorial Lead for STM in Japan, deliberately helps her team see the people behind their work. “I connect the work to its purpose and to the users behind it. I explain why the work matters, who it helps, and what value it creates. I also share feedback from customers and colleagues so that people can see that their work is actually being used and appreciated.”
"Customers may never see the performance testing behind the scenes, but they absolutely feel the difference."
"My role allows me to work with health professionals far more closely, supporting them with technology adoption that can make their day-to-day work faster, easier and more meaningful."
From better information to better action
For technologist Shayla Carter in STM in the UK, improving the systems behind AI leads directly to better-quality answers. “The product I work on right now helps us make more accurate AI tools. An AI tool is only as good as its responses, and our product allows subject matter experts to test and give feedback on our AI tools, to ensure they give the best responses possible.”
In Legal in the UK, software engineer Hiral Gajjar helps tax professionals find reliable answers within large volumes of complex information. She captures the connection simply: “I’m not just writing code - I’m helping build AI tools that make complex information easier to understand and faster to use.”
That same focus on practical improvement shapes Natasha Gulati’s work as a customer success manager for STM in India. “My role allows me to work with health professionals far more closely, supporting them with technology adoption that can make their day-to-day work faster, easier and more meaningful.”
For Lisa Lin, also in STM, in China, the outcome can be measured in the reach of a customer’s research. “I am most proud of leading a multi-year partnership with a top Asian university, resulting in a 36% increase in their research output visibility through our solutions.”
Seeing the impact every day
Brian Rouse and his Legal colleagues in the US provide human expertise that helps ensure AI solutions reflect real-world legal practice. Their line of sight comes through the products they strengthen: “The work we do is recognised and valued. We see the results of it and how it’s enriching and improving our products, and ultimately, improving those products for our customers.”
For Meera Patel, Senior Manager - Employment and Payroll Taxes, that line of sight to customer value might seem less obvious. But as with many colleagues working in Corporate teams, that’s simply not so. “My work benefits RELX employees, business leaders and customers. I help colleagues travel and work internationally in a compliant way, so the business can deploy expertise where it is needed. RELX creates value through the expertise, products and services delivered by its people. Customers benefit when the right colleagues can support them in the right place, at the right time.”
For Relationship Director Rebecca Greenstreet in Legal in Australia, working directly with clients makes that impact especially immediate. “By leveraging our market-leading technology and rich content sets, you are able to help our clients make real improvements and change in their business; in sales you get to see the impact of your work every day.”
In Exhibitions in the UK, RX Engineering Manager Graeme Sacks leads teams responsible for systems that support registration and ecommerce across events. “I’m not just managing a team, I’m focused on ensuring our programme is delivering the best possible outcomes for RX and our customers.”
Silke Frank, who has responsibility for the strategic development of FIBO (the world's leading trade show for health, fitness and wellness) within Exhibitions in Germany, expresses the purpose of exhibitions as being “to bring customers and markets together worldwide with and through our products, services and shows.”
And in the Philippines, Operations Manager Vic Conte makes sure colleagues understand more than the tasks they perform. Asked how she makes their work meaningful, her answer was: “By helping the team members understand the purpose and impact of their roles in serving our consumers.”
"By leveraging our market-leading technology and rich content sets, you are able to help our clients make real improvements and change in their business."
"My work benefits RELX employees, business leaders and customers. I help colleagues travel and work internationally in a compliant way, so the business can deploy expertise where it is needed."
One destination, many routes
These voices show that line of sight is not reserved for sales or traditionally customer-facing roles. It can be built into code, testing, editorial judgement, product development, leadership, operations and the creation of live events.
The common discipline is to keep asking who benefits, what improves and how the customer will feel the difference. Across RELX, the answers include faster workflows, more dependable systems, more accurate AI, wider research reach, more useful information and stronger connections.
Different businesses and roles may sit at different points on the chain, but they share the same destination: work that reaches our customers and makes something better when it gets there.
Every RELX colleague contributes to customer success regardless of role or how far removed it may seem. How does your role add value to customers?
